INSPECTION
PROCEDURE FOR LIGHTNING STRIKE
If an Aircraft is flying or on the ground in the vicinity
of highly charged cloud formations or electric discharges between a cloud and
the ground,the following inspections are to be carried out on the Aircraft

Consult the pilot regarding the nature
of the lightninig strike.

Inspect wing tips and leading edges of
wings for small circular holes in the exterior skin, burning, pitting and
discolouration.

|
Inspect all control surface hinge
bearings for damage, burning and seizure.
|
|
|
4.
|
Check for any roughness and resistence
to movement of all control surfaces.
|
|
|
5.
|
Examine engine cowling and engine for
signs of burning or pittings. If the strike is evident, then carry out
inspections as advised on Advisory Circular No.: 2 / 77.
|
|
|
6.
|
Check for residual magnetism and
demagnetise where necessary.
|
|
|
7.
|
Carry out bonding check of the
aircraft.
|
|
|
8.
|
Examine bonding strips,if available
for burning and disintegration.
|
|
|
9.
|
Check the radio equipment for proper
functioning.
|
|
|
10.
|
Check electrical installation for
continuity, insulation and operation.
|
|
|
11.
|
Check all instruments for proper
functioning.
|
|
|
12.
|
Carry out Check – Swinging of the
D.R.Compass.
